HIRANOEN (ひらの園) / Internship

Hiranoen is a tea farm located in the Kakegawa district of Shizuoka Prefecture. Established in 1888 the farm has been operating for over 120 years. 

As a privately-owned plantation Hiranoen is family-run in all aspects from the management of the cultivation in the fields, and production of tea in the factory, through the sales. 

Using only 100% tea leaves cultivated at Hiranoen, the teas produced here are indeed the "farmer's tea," produced by those very same farmers. As well as the main tea -- deep-steamed sencha -- naturally produced regular sencha and kocha are also made at the farm. 

During the winter farming period the people Hiranoen continue to open their own stalls at places like the Farmer's Market in Aoyama, Tokyo. 

Also held at the farm is a special tea-picking experience available on just one day each year. 

While production volume is limited, the people at Hiranoen believe that this makes for a stronger impact. Currently in their 4th and 5th generation of owners / famers, they remain focused every day on tea.
