Ranji Gallery & Tenjin Cafe (蘭字ギャラリー・天神カフェ)

FROM THE SHOP

Introducing the history of tea production from those farmers who were among the first to react to the globalization of Japan that occurred at the end of the Bakamatsu period. Learn about those farmers from the Shida region of Shizuoka who exported green tea under the brand “JAPAN TEA” after the country opened its doors to international trade.

At the same time as Japan’s globalization, “Tenjin-san” the God of Wisdom was changing from clay dolls to tenjin dressed in the traditional costume of Shida region.

While taking in our exhibit of tea export stamps and Tenjin figures, visitors can also enjoy locally-made confectionary as well as learn about the history of the area through traditional picture storytelling.

And of course the green tea. We have special teas from Fujieda that include “Fujieda Kaori,” wakocha and warakake teas.
