Your good and bad habits cultivated during living here
I wrote a blog on this topic today, but if you'd care to share, what are some of the good or bad habits you've picked up during your time here?

As for "bad habits", I'm trying to bust out of my 平和ボケ, heiwa boke, or complacency borne of living in a relatively safe environment. I'm being more fastidious about locking my bicycle even on brief trips to shops, keeping my valuables on me rather than leaving them lying on tables and seats to keep my place. I'm training myself to leave my jacket but not my smart phone or wallet when I leave my seat. That would be an invitation to theft in most countries, including my home country.

I read your blog post. Points taken! Living in Japan has made me much more conscious about dressing for occasions. It's a good idea to have "black formal" clothing items on hand for graduations, weddings, funerals, and other life events. In my home country, it's much less standardized than Japan. Japan's simple black formal would work in Canada, too. Simple, easy to wear, and low-key.

@TonetoEdo oh gosh, such a great point for your bad habit. I'm guilty of that too, and I often worry about reverse culture shock when I eventually go back to my home country. In the grand scheme of things Australia is still very safe, but not on the same level as here.

@genkidesu I’m preparing myself for what I anticipate is a jarring experience, a visit to my home country. It’s relatively safe in Canada, but you can’t let your guard down.
