Trip to Miyazaki this summer. Any recommendations?

Heading to Miyazaki, Kyushu this summer (4 nights, staying in Aoshima). Any recommendations on places to eat would be much appreciated. Also, any sightseeing spots? The priority is surfing but we'll have a car and will still have time to travel around a bit. Cheers!

If you're in Fukuoka (or Oita) on your way there, I recommend Taiho Ramen for the tonkotsu ramen Fukuoka / Kyushu is known for. Miyazaki is more famous for their mangoes and 'chicken nanban' from what I've heard. I'm hoping we'll get there this summer, but haven't been there yet to be more specific about restaurants. The food is great in Kyushu, so anything with local flavors is going to be a little different from what you'd find around Tokyo. Enjoy & I'll watch this for ideas too.

@helloalissa - Thx. "Taiho ramen," hadn't heard of that one. I shall keep it in mind. I've heard some nice things about the Nichinan cost south of Miyazaki, and the Japanese guidebook / magazine is telling us to go to an old town called Obi. I'm also hoping we can drive north up the coast towards Hyuga (?), although that's mainly to check out some surf points (although I hear it's a nice drive).

Today, November 22nd, is Wakayama Prefecture Hometown Birthday. What do you most associate with Wakayama Prefecture? To be honest, I realized in writing about this 'birthday', that I know next to nothing about Wakayama Prefecture. I'm really interested to hear what your image of the prefecture is.
