Any Good Classifieds?

I'm not a frequent facebook user, but do most of you use local groups there for searching for work, buying and selling things, etc? Is there another website you use for local or online language exchange, events, sayonara sales...that kind of thing? Local or all over Japan is fine, just looking for options that are easy for anyone to use. Also, a lot of sites like gaininpot.com have classifieds, but they are not so recently used or as popular as they were from what I can tell. Some sites don't even have dates so the listings could be from years ago. Thanks!

The most reliable page I've had for selling stuff here has been Japan Garage Sale on Facebook. The link is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/JapanGarageSaleEverythingElse/ There are definitely larger groups out there, but they usually are filled with spammy kinds of posts. This one is monitored well, and I've had minimal issues there – almost everyone pays on time, communicates in a timely manner, etc. When we lived in Tokyo I did use Craigslist to sell some stuff, and did occasionally see job listings on there. However, there was a lot of weird stuff on there too...don't think I'd really recommend it!

I've never thought to look for work via Facebook groups but would perhaps do so for buying / selling stuff, sayonara sales and those kind of things. Being in the Kanto area the FB group Tokyo Expat Network is where I might start for something like that. I think there are a whole bunch of interesting and useful groups for Japan-related stuff on FB but you might need a bit of patience to sift through all of those that have become saturated with spam and other weird posts. When I first came to Japan over a decade ago now I felt like the classifieds of Metropolis magazine were quite good but having revisited them today after seeing your question, it looks like they might not have much to offer. Maybe still good for event listings though. I think Tokyo Notice Board may still be worth a look, even for people not in the Kanto area. Again, on the back of your question, I found this Locanto website today which seems to have some recent classified listings for areas across Japan, but I've no idea how reliable it is. I've used Craigslist Tokyo to find side-jobs in the past and found it to be OK in that regard. I haven't used it in a while though and as @genkidesu mentioned, there's some weird stuff on there so best to approach with caution.

I joined some regional Facebook groups for buy and sell. Some of the regional groups allow members to post job listings, buy and sell, and local events. The Ibaraki-ken Group is very active. Mottainai Facebook group exclusively for free stuff is great. I'm also subscribed to Freecycle Japan. I've managed to give away stuff in good condition this way. Tokyo Notice Board is active, too, publishing twice a month.

Some groups on FB I joined are the garage sale/giveaway groups where those moving or leaving the country often give things away for free, and I find that very helpful!

Just checked and found a lot of good pages for free things or to give things away if you search "mottainai Japan". Also, Gaijin Eats Japan is a great page to follow and ask questions!

Best places for One Piece merch/things to do?

My son has recently become very interested in all things One Piece, and I was wondering if any of you know some fun places to check out for merchandise or One Piece events/activities. I know there used to be the thing at Tokyo Tower, but that has since closed. Any tips would be appreciated!

What are you doing without?

Ever heard of the saying "Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without"? I feel like it's ever-appropriate these days. Are there things that you're trying (or having) to do without, given the cost of living increases? I haven't bought new clothes in quite a while, and I feel like when we first moved here that was something I often did, almost like a hobby. These days I might not be the trendiest, but I use the clothes I have, and I guess I'm more comfortable in my style.

Every year, some years, one and done? How often do you visit local festivals?

One of our biggest annual festivals took place in the last week, and it got me thinking -- with your local area's annual festivals, do you go every year, some years, or check it out once and don't make a repeat appearance? I'd say it's a mixed bag for me: there are some I love going to each year, some that I go to every few years (e.g. if the weather really sucks I'll skip it), and some that I've been to once and didn't find the need to revisit. How about you?
