2023 Covid Vaccines

It’s now 2023 and people are not so worried about Covid anymore, but I recently had it, and had so many severe symptoms, I think I want to get a booster so I don’t have to go through that again. Does anyone know if city governments are handling it now? Or do I just need to ask a doctor’s office.

AFAIK, you can just reach out to any doctor's office that provides the service and make a reservation now. It seems like most places still require that, as opposed to walk-ins. https://v-sys.mhlw.go.jp/en/search/ has a list of providers that administer the vaccine (you can search by prefecture > city and it will bring up all the providers in your local area). It also indicates which vaccine type the provider administers, if that's a factor in your decision of where to visit.

Sorry to hear you had a bad dose. It would be very interesting to read what it was like if you would consider writing a post about it! m(_ _)m I hope you are fully recovered now. I'm not sure if you've heard, but you have to wait at least 4 weeks before getting a booster after an infection. In my home country they say 3+ months, a lot actually say 6 months (including my own Doc). In Japan officially the government recommends at least three months.

Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare says municipal governments are starting free vaccinations this autumn. The city I live in just mailed out vaccine coupons last week. The window for applications is next week with vaccinations starting in two weeks. According to the info packet, the vaccines are available to adults. The info also says if you've received an influenza vaccination, you have to wait some weeks before receiving the Covid vaccine. The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare link to see when your municipal government has scheduled free vaccinations - https://v-sys.mhlw.go.jp/en/application/3rd-inoculation.html

@TonetoEdo is the no COVID/flu vaccine at the same time because they're worried about side effects? I was going to try and do both of them at the same time but I didn't know you couldn't co-administer!

@genkidesu Sorry, disregard what I wrote in that answer. The MHLW information updated on October 6th - https://www.city.noda.chiba.jp/kurashi/kenko/kansen/1025329/1038721.html

@BigfamJapan I have honestly been lax with this over the last 12 months. We got COVID for a second time as a family earlier this year and it was so much milder than the first time we got it. The first time around I felt like death warmed up, and was basically bedridden for three days. The second time it felt just like a bad cold, but we did test to be sure and lo and behold we had it. I probably ought to make sure we're up to date though as we head into the colder months, and same goes for our flu vaccinations too.

Condiments in your fridge?

Just for fun! I was thinking the other day how different the contents of my fridge are to the fridge I grew up with! Just one example, I always have soy sauce in my fridge and usually at least one other unopened bottle in the cupboard. There was never soy sauce in my fridge growing up. And the friends I grew up with don't have soy sauce in their fridges even now. But my Uni friends all have soy sauce in their fridges, because they all lived in Japan for at least a year. I was just wondering what things do you have in your fridge here that you probably wouldn't have in your fridge in your home country had you never lived here.

Golden Week 2025 plans?

This year's Golden Week gives us Tuesday, April 29th, and then potentially a four-day weekend from May 3rd to 6th. How are you intending to spend the break? Will you travel, "staycation", or dare I ask, work through it?
