Looking for gravy granules / powder in stores in Tokyo area

Christmas back in the UK has got me hankering for some gravy. I know this has been an issue for some of us in Japan for some years now but I thought I’d revisit it. However, Costco and Seijo Ishi have turned up no gravy. I’m yet to try Kaldi and Meidi-ya but I’m not hopeful. Anyone spotted any gravy in stores in Japan recently (preferably Tokyo area)?

I have only ever made gravy from scratch, with oil, flour, milk, and lots of stirring. I have poutine packets from kaldi from a few years ago. What about Amazon or something else online?

I once bought a pack from Kaldi but they don't carry it regularly apparently, and the taste was meh, to be honest, but worth asking them again and see when they might have some stock again. The only one time I had good gravy in Japan was when someone made it from scratch lol

The easiest way is possible to just make it from scratch. I liked to use those poweders too when I lived in europe, but now I realized how easy it is to make it just by myself. Alternativly amazon Japan offer many from England.

National Azabu in Hiroo usually has gravy! It's just a couple of minutes on foot from Hiroo Station.

I'm in the UK, flying back tonight, I'll try and get you some Bisto. Failing that I have spare Oxo cubes you can have. Send me a direct email. Paul

OK, so who's going to write the blog post about how to make your own gravy using stuff readily available in Japan? Ha ha!

I've only ever had home made gravy. My favorite kind of gravy that I miss from home is miso gravy from a vegetarian restaurant in my home city. Googling revealed a recipe that is pretty faithful to the original. You can easily make tasty gravy from whatever you can get your mitts on. Make a roux by melting butter and mixing in flour, then add herbs, broth, drippings or cream and s&p. It takes maybe 10 minutes to make and keeps in the fridge for a few days. What foods do you like to pour your gravy over?

@Tomuu Mate I've picked you up some Bisto. How do you want me to send it to you? Or if you work in town happy to drop off.

I know for sure I was able to buy gravy way way back but I can't seem to find it anywhere now. :(

@TonetoEdo - Well, primarily roast beef and Yorkshire puddings but given the lack of the latter and the expense of the former over here, I would like a bit of gravy to pour over maybe some chicken, veggies, mash potato ... perhaps some nice sausages on occasion.

@Tomuu When I get a break in a few weeks, I’m going to experiment with a toaster oven to make Yorkshire pudding. I’m tempted to get a slow cooker. You can do roast beef in one, and that means juices, and juices mean gravy.

I know this is an old question, but they sell it on AmazonJP now: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Favourite-Granules-bisuto-Favorite-Juices/dp/B008OMA6LO/ref=sr_1_2?crid=WU1B71H05RFX Kinda pricey but it is a half kilo container of it!

Summer reading

I know there have been questions in the past about what we're watching, but I'm wondering what you're reading at the moment! I'm looking to get a few new books for summer and I'd love to hear if you have any recent recommendations. If you have any good spots here to get EN language books in person, too, I'd appreciate if you would share those as well!

Condiments in your fridge?

Just for fun! I was thinking the other day how different the contents of my fridge are to the fridge I grew up with! Just one example, I always have soy sauce in my fridge and usually at least one other unopened bottle in the cupboard. There was never soy sauce in my fridge growing up. And the friends I grew up with don't have soy sauce in their fridges even now. But my Uni friends all have soy sauce in their fridges, because they all lived in Japan for at least a year. I was just wondering what things do you have in your fridge here that you probably wouldn't have in your fridge in your home country had you never lived here.

Moving house process

I've been in my apartment for nearly 7 years. I've got my eye on an apartment one station closer to work. But I forgot what it was like to move in here! It was all a bit traumatic... Have you got some packing tips, suggestions for how to move your household goods, and what to save for last?
