Favorite kabocha recipes?

In the spirit of autumn almost being here, I was wondering if anyone has any good kabocha recipes to share. Ideally I'd like suggestions that don't need an oven (we don't have one) and don't require deep frying -- for instance, I love kabocha tempura but I don't like the greasy smell in my house, so it's easier to purchase those pre-cooked from my local supermarket.

Hello there! I usually make kabocha soup, no oven needed but you do need a blitzer or hand blender to get it all smooth. So good and easy to put together plus always a winner with the kids. Serve it with some cheesy toast and it’s the perfect autumn meal (or starter) depending on how big your bowl is

Its a long time since I cooked pumpkin, but just tonight my Mother-in-law sent in some pumpkin mashed and baked with some milk. It was simple, but nice!

I do kabocha salad. I cut into chunks and steam them in a basket in a stock pot. I dress them with a dash of soy sauce, a sprinkle of pepper, and a liberal dose of mayonnaise. It's great finished with a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or almonds.

I also so roast thin slices of kabocha in the oven toaster drizzled with soy sauce and a shake of pepper.

@xen I always forget just how good soup is during autumn! We have an immersion blender so no worries there, and I'm glad you mentioned kid friendly because that's definitely a consideration for me. The cheesy toast sounds like the perfect accompaniment, too!

Summer reading

I know there have been questions in the past about what we're watching, but I'm wondering what you're reading at the moment! I'm looking to get a few new books for summer and I'd love to hear if you have any recent recommendations. If you have any good spots here to get EN language books in person, too, I'd appreciate if you would share those as well!

Condiments in your fridge?

Just for fun! I was thinking the other day how different the contents of my fridge are to the fridge I grew up with! Just one example, I always have soy sauce in my fridge and usually at least one other unopened bottle in the cupboard. There was never soy sauce in my fridge growing up. And the friends I grew up with don't have soy sauce in their fridges even now. But my Uni friends all have soy sauce in their fridges, because they all lived in Japan for at least a year. I was just wondering what things do you have in your fridge here that you probably wouldn't have in your fridge in your home country had you never lived here.

Moving house process

I've been in my apartment for nearly 7 years. I've got my eye on an apartment one station closer to work. But I forgot what it was like to move in here! It was all a bit traumatic... Have you got some packing tips, suggestions for how to move your household goods, and what to save for last?
