Dog ate my page responses?

Hi. I just wrote a post and when I went to publish it I got an error message. Then I went to report it on the form page that comes up when you click on report error and I got a "dog ate my page" response. Anyone else experiencing technical problems with the site right now? The photo is just for visibility!

@genkidesu Thanks to City Cost for whatever back-end IT wizardry was required to restore the platform. The first stable login for me was the evening of April 23rd. 大感謝!

It worked earlier today for me, and I can see your blog! So hopefully it was just a temporary glitch!

@genkidesu thanks a million K. I see I'm back in action now. I had City-cost open in another window at the time. Perhaps that's what caused it?

@BigfamJapan that could be a possibility! I've had the "dog ate my page" error in the past, too, but never put two and two together that it could have been multiple windows open causing it. I will have to keep that in mind in case it happens again!

I sometimes get logged out involuntarily, but few "dog ate my page" responses. They only happen when I miss one of the elements of a post.

I just had it happen earlier today with a post that I started and then returned to later. So maybe it's something to do with idle time and the page 'timing out' so to speak?

@genkidesu Sorry to hear that. I used to get it more often for things like that. There hadn't been any technical issues for ages, so it might just be something needs tweaking behind the scenes.

@TonetoEdo I get logged out involuntarily sometimes when I've had the window open a long time.

Did the rest of you have issues with the whole site being down for the last couple of days? I was getting errors every time I tried to login. It resolved late last night, it seems!

@TonetoEdo yes, very thankful for those working behind the scenes to get it fixed! The time that the site was down made me realize how much I enjoy checking in daily on here!

@genkidesu Me, too! I was so relieved to see the website functional again! My one quibble is with the place reviews. Click on a place review, scroll down to IN THE AREA, and you'll see duplicate thumbnails. It's not a big thing, but it means you scroll past multiple entries. Is it important? Yeah! I want my friends with whom I share the reccos to trust the platform.

@TonetoEdo I've noticed that a few times, too. Didn't know if it was a long-term issue or a temp glitch, but probably good to alert the admins in case it's an easy fix! Definitely understand wanting to make sure the platform is a trusted resource for folks!

@BigfamJapan So it's not a browser problem on our end. It's not catastrophic, but it would look good if there weren't duplicates. City-Cost Kancho, pretty please!

What's on your "generic" local manhole?

My local area has some specialty manholes (including some from the Gundam manhole project not too far away!) but the most common "generic" one features mountains and watermelon. Fairly representative of the region, I think! What's on yours?

Do you have a favorite mascot?

The other day, on "Strawberry Day" I wrote about "Yoshimin", the strawberry mascot of Yoshimi. I thought it might be fun to introduce a few others, so I've just written about "Tokimo" the mascot of Kawagoe. And I plan to introduce a couple of my favorites. It begs the question, do you have a favorite mascot? And how about writing a post on City-cost about your favorite or a local mascot? Pictured "Umerin" who I plan to write about next!

Who is your hero!?

Today, January 16th, is Hero Day. Who is your favorite hero, fictional or otherwise? The first one who comes to my mind for me is a real life person; Mary Robinson, a former president of Ireland (moreover, the first female president), and a former United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights, among other impressive roles. I had the great pleasure of meeting her in December, a dream come true. I was trying to think about who my favorite fictional hero is. I have not come to conclusion yet! There is such a choice. Do you have one?

Recommendations for next Christmas?

While its somewhat fresh in your mind, what gifts came into your house this Christmas and / or New Year, that you thought were really nice things to receive and / or really good buys, that you think might make a good present for someone else in the future? As you might see in the product reviews, I am going through some of the things I bought for the kids this year and thinking of what I was really happy with. And already thinking of next year!

Growing Mushrooms

Here's for a weird hobby. I just saw a video by an American Youtuber that I plan to watch about growing shiitake mushrooms. From what I've seen, it probably needs a bit of space. There was a local market in Fukuoka Prefecture that had a "mushroom room" where they grew and sold mushrooms like maitake and eringi. I also saw a video of a couple in Paris that built a mushroom growing shower room! The local hardware store sells "seeded" logs and shiitake mushroom growing kits. I have seen the logs around people's homes on occasion. It seems like a very odd, but sustainable hobby. Has anyone tried it, or is anyone interested to try this? I wonder how involved or beginner friendly it is.
