Database error

Anyone else getting a database error after you log in? So far, it looks like I can still write posts, but I had trouble logging in and after log in my home page looks different to normal with a "database error" message.

My login page was missing one of the buttons, and initially when I tried to log in I got the Sorry, the dog ate my page ... (T_T) The requested address '/users/cclogin' was not found on this server." message. I tried it a second time and was able to log in, though, but maybe there are some site issues again.

The landing page isn't displaying latest blog posts, but it looks like we're back. I'll attempt to post and report back here.

It looks like there are still some bugs. I successfully posted a blog. It appears on my page but doesn't appear in the latest blogs...

@TonetoEdo I don't even have any of the recent blogs showing on the main page, actually! The features section (written by City-Cost) is there, and the reviews below that, but the other section just says "Updating Blog Channels" with nothing below it. Is that how it's displaying for you, too?

@genkidesu Yes, I'm seeing the same thing. The team must be doing a big reset. When I click on a profile, then the profile's blog link, the display is from oldest to newest. In one respect, it's cool to see old blog posts. You can see how we've become better writers. The bummer is scrolling through to see the latest blog posts.

@genkidesu The team got back to me very quickly last night after I messaged them about these issues. They were "upgrading" on the back end and everything should be running smoothly now. However, I noticed under the blog section on the home page its still missing the grid of four blog posts. Other than that, all looks good so far!

@genkidesu I may have spoke too soon, there still seems to be a lot of issues. I can't add photos and the latest posts are missing when you click in to "updating blog channels", among other issues. But as they said they are working on it, hopefully things will be back to normal soon. :)

Just tried to exchange points and I'm not able to do that either, right now! Hoping it rectifies today since the 25th is the cutoff for exchange :( Has anyone else tried to exchange points this morning?

@genkidesu I tried on Friday initially looked normal, but there was no drop down menu so I couldn't select an amount! But today it says "internal error" and then gives a "is this what you were looking for" with some blog posts listed!

I still can't add photos, but I noticed that muggle was able to add some in the gallery today. I can't add in the post or in the gallery either. New posts still aren't showing up either.

@City-Cost thanks for the update. I see there is a new screen today on the "exchange points" page. However, when I enter my phone number it says "this number is already in use" or something similar. How can we go about exchanging points this month? Thank you.

@BigfamJapan Thanks for reaching out. The points exchange function is one of those that is experiencing operational issues at the moment. We are currently working to fix it and hope to have it back to normal soon. Once it is back on track, you should be able to submit points exchange requests in the normal way. Extra time will be given to submit requests for the last month in light of the issue. Updates to follow. Thanks again for your patience and understanding. the City-Cost team

@City-Cost Thank you so much for your response! This blog platform is invaluable as it is one of the few that provide honest and very local reviews of locations in Japan. It's refreshing to read the blog posts, too. Best of luck while you update the back end!

UPDATE: The points exchange request function should be operating as normal. In light of these recent issues, the latest round of points exchanges will review and process requests to exchange points submitted up to and including Friday May 30. Requests submitted after May 30 will be handled according to the usual schedule, after the 25th of the following month. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Kind regards, the City-Cost team

What unusual items do you have in your emergency bag?

In honor of Disaster Prevention Day and further to the preparedness articles I just wrote, I am curious: what item/s do you have in your emergency bag aka disaster preparedness kit, that might not be common nationwide?

Reflections on our home countries after living in Japan

I think one thing living in Japan has given me is an appreciation of things my country does really well, and things it doesn't do so well in comparison to here. For instance, I think Australia is great with annual leave entitlements. You get four weeks automatically (some workplaces offer even more!) and there's not any guilt associated with taking it. Something we don't do so well is public transport. I know that Australia is a massive country, but there has been talk of creating a high speed rail option from Melbourne to Sydney for ages, and nothing has ever come of it. It's basically an 8 hour drive or flying. Also, inner city trains are regularly not on time. What are the things you think your home country does better or worse than Japan?

Hair Color Treatments for Greying Hair

For those of you who have colored grey hair, I'm curious about the hair color treatments available in most drugstores. They seem simpler to use than box dyes. It's been many years since I've colored my hair. It's a chestnut brown and my grey is more silver. I don't hate it but the grey is dry and making me feel like I look older than I am. I'm especially interested in the natural brands that are non-permanent. For example Rishiri Kombu sounds like a decent option. Looking forward to your recommendations and experience.
