What shampoo brand do you recommend for dandruff?

I have been dealing with this dandruff situation for quite a while now and I still can't seem to figure out how to get rid of this problem. I have tried several shampoo brands/products like head and shoulders, ANGFA organic shampoo and the Honey Deep Moist Shampoo. And none of them worked so far. Some say it's because of hot shower. Well I do shower every day, but I don't use hot shower all the time. I rinse my hair thoroughly after applying shampoo and conditioner. I also tried applying shampoo every other day just to make my hair less dry but I still none of those tricks are working. If there is a product that you recommend that suits every man's budget then I would appreciate it so much.

I use a brand called Success. However, I had dandruff for the longest time too until I tried just soaking the shampoo in for a longer time before washing it off.

My husband likes the Head and Shoulders men's scalp care variety, you can find it on Amazon Japan and despite being called "men's scalp care" I think it's suitable for anyone. It has a nice smell and isn't too expensive.

@PDecs Thank you for the tip. I will try that method for a week or two and we'll see. :)

Curel's line of moisture care including the shampoo might do the trick. I've used Merit shampoo in the dry winter months and had some relief. You can also go to a dermatologist to ask for advice.

That's actually a great tip from ToneToEdo, since some scalp conditions look like dandruff but they're not actually dandruff, like dermatitis. If you've already tried a number of anti-dandruff shampoos without any success, the dermatologist route would be a good next step IMO.

@genkidesu Yes, that will definitely be my last option. I will just have to try all of your recommended products first before I seek help from a dermatologist. I appreciate all your tips and suggestions.

I've nothing to suggest currently, but I've noticed my eldest daughter has dandruff quite bad at the moment - ever since pool season started. So I'm taking note of the suggestions! Thanks for posting.

  • Hey @ekimsaido Same problem. Ever since I moved to Japan, I started experiencing dandruff—something I never had back in my home country.

@TheMuggleWriter1997 Yeah. Their suggestions were really helpful.

  • I suspect it’s due to the water quality and the constant need to use a heater, especially during the cold seasons.

  • The dryness caused by hot water might be making my scalp flaky.

Your "buy it for life" purchases in Japan

There's a reddit community I really enjoy reading called r/buyitforlife. As the name suggests, people outline purchases that they've made that truly stand the test of time. Kitchen items, clothing, shoes, etc... What have been your "buy it for life" items here?

How well does your home country insulate homes compared to here?

One thing I struggle with is the lack of insulation in Japanese homes, with summers often feeling like you're living in a sauna and winters feeling like outside is the same temperature as inside. In saying that, my home country isn't fab with insulation either. They're still very much a nation of single paned windows and minimal stuff in the walls to regulate temperature well. Does your home country do insulation well compared to here?

Do you wear kimono? When and where?

In what environments have you worn kimono, hakama, or other traditional clothing? My only kimono experience is Heian period garb - basket hat, veil, and hakama - at a regional festival. I'm curious about daily kimono wear. Have you found a community or school that trains you in kimono wear? How much time do you dedicate to dressing?
