What are you doing for Christmas dinner?

Curious about what all of you do for Christmas dinner. We usually do KFC on Christmas Eve, but last year for Christmas dinner we just went to a local restaurant...I want to make some Christmas dinner traditions here, but the old "no oven" debacle comes up again. What do all of you cook for Christmas dinner, or do you just go out somewhere?

This is my first year here for Christmas. In my family, breakfast was always the most important, so I am going to attempt to make some homemade cinnamon rolls. As for dinner, I haven't decided yet. I was thinking about doing cheese fondue or going out for pasta. It really is hard without a real oven!

Luckly our plans have changed and I can spend christmas eve with my husband and our kid. I´m planing to prepare some lamb chops with backed potato and vegetable. I´m lucky enough to own an oven. That´s why cooking a christmas dinner by myself if always the best option instead of going somewhere.

My mom had a tradition of making a huge breakfast...for dinner. Biscuits(a bit flakier than scones but essentially the same thing), pancakes, eggs, sausage, and toast. She started it because we received a giant box of tiny jams and wanted an excuse to use it but us kids loved it so much she made it a tradition. My two daughters may or may not be here for christmas, and my husband will be working so I was thinking of steak for a treat, or searching the supermarket for a deal. I found some lobster halves that were on sale one year and added some candlesticks to make it feel fancy. It's not what you eat, but how you present it

We're going to a Christmas buffet lunch at a Hilton hotel although it's technically for my husband's birthday. https://www.hiltonfukuokaseahawk.jp/plans/restaurants/buffet/seala_1911 We often just go to Sushirou!

This year, Christmas is mid week, I'm on holiday, but my guy is working until the 27th. We usually do the Japanese version of Christmas so we will get dressed up for date night on Friday or Saturday and go to one of our favorite local izakaya.

@Bella I often escape to Thailand for a week during the end of year break. This year, I got away to one of the Izu Islands. They're warmer than Tokyo, snow and frost free, and not so far away.

November 14th is Saitama Prefecture Day. I am curious, especially as I live there, what is the FIRST thing that comes to mind when I say "Saitama Prefecture"? About Saitama Prefecture Day; https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/BigfamJapan/wmeY2-living_saitama

What do you MOST associate with Oita?

Seen as there was a good response to the same question for Ibaraki AND today is Oita Prefecture day (although they don't celebrate it), what is the first thing that comes to mind when I say "Oita Prefecture"? I have written a post about Oita Prefecture day with what I most associate with it, but I won't write it here so as not to influence your answer, but you can read the post here; https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/BigfamJapan/Mnv34-living_oita

Japanese names you love?

I blogged yesterday about this year's top baby names in Japan, and there was quite a focus on nature and calmness in the most popular picks. I was wondering if there are any Japanese names you love for the meaning behind them. Maybe you have a friend, coworker, or even family member with a beautiful name. I'd be happy to hear what it is, and why you like it so much!

Fears in Japan that you didn't have in your home country?

I've written a number of blogs here on City-Cost about how bears are a real worry in my area these days, and it's something that I didn't have to concern myself with in my home country. I know people talk about snakes and spiders in Australia being deadly (and yes, there are some types that are), but they're not typically going to come and attack you unprovoked. Also, it's a lot easier to outrun a snake or a spider than a bear ;) I'm curious about the rest of you, if you have fears here that maybe weren't present in your country of origin. Let me know in the comments!
