Netflix Japan: What are we watching (update)

I know I've posted a question before about what people are watching on Netflix Japan but I feel like that was some time ago and so maybe I'm in need of an update. Also, Season 5 of Peaky Blinders has popped up on the Japanese version of Netflix over the past few days, as well as season 5 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, both series that I've been a fan of in the past. So, what are we watching these days? Anything I shouldn't be missing?!

Definitely don't think it's everyone's cup of tea, but I was really getting into Anne with an E for a while. I used to love Anne of Green Gables as a kid, which the show is based around - so that was part of the appeal to me. I'm honestly just ready for the new season of The Crown to be released. Just around the corner in November I believe, but it's been a mighty long wait.

@genkidesu - Anne of Green Gables! My sister used to be well into that so I've seen a bit of TV series in the, 1980s??, I want to say. Heard good things about The Crown. I did actually start it so maybe I should get back on that.

@Tomuu haha yes, there was an 80's version! The one on Netflix now is brand new, and it's quite a bit darker than the 80's one -- in a good way, though. The Crown to me is so well written and acted, but it's going to be interesting with the newest season since they're jumping the timeline a bit and the cast have all changed. Olivia Colman plays Queen Elizabeth in the soon to be released series, and Helena Bonham Carter is Princess Margaret...I'm pumped to see how they portray them.

I am on Netflix only for 2: Stranger Things, and Black Mirror! Oh and all the great Sci-fi movies that I can rewatch again and again.

@Jackson - Have you watched Blade Runner 2049, yet? Really enjoyed that!

My all-time favourite on Netflix is Dark so I can really recommend it to everyone that hasn't seen it yet.

Second on Dark if you haven’t seen it already. Recently watched Marcella and Perfume, I guess I’d rate Perfume a bit higher.

@thegoodgaijin - Those "Nordic"-noir detective series (Wiki describing Marcella) seem to be pretty popular back home in the U.K., might give it a look. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Has anybody seen The Naked Director yet? It is so good! Only 8 episodes, and it's recently been renewed for a second season! It's about the porn industry in Japan in the 80's. Also just a heads up, I think it's best to watch this alone at home!

Just finished binge-watching The Crown and Patriot Act. Now watching season 6 of Grace and Frankie.

One thing I always look forward to at this time of the year are the cheesy Christmas movie releases on Netflix. Watched "Hot Frosty" recently (スノーマンに恋して in Japanese) with Lacey Chabert and it was such a fun and lighthearted movie.

Condiments in your fridge?

Just for fun! I was thinking the other day how different the contents of my fridge are to the fridge I grew up with! Just one example, I always have soy sauce in my fridge and usually at least one other unopened bottle in the cupboard. There was never soy sauce in my fridge growing up. And the friends I grew up with don't have soy sauce in their fridges even now. But my Uni friends all have soy sauce in their fridges, because they all lived in Japan for at least a year. I was just wondering what things do you have in your fridge here that you probably wouldn't have in your fridge in your home country had you never lived here.

Moving house process

I've been in my apartment for nearly 7 years. I've got my eye on an apartment one station closer to work. But I forgot what it was like to move in here! It was all a bit traumatic... Have you got some packing tips, suggestions for how to move your household goods, and what to save for last?

Golden Week 2025 plans?

This year's Golden Week gives us Tuesday, April 29th, and then potentially a four-day weekend from May 3rd to 6th. How are you intending to spend the break? Will you travel, "staycation", or dare I ask, work through it?
