You can buy an insect spray that comes with a needle that you can insert into the tatami mat. I forgot which one we used but they have a lot of it in stores. They didn't get away quickly but they did after several days of spraying. :)

Eek! I don't have any personal experience with them, but I remember reading that roach traps work on silverfish too. Good luck!

While they may seem to be a nuisance, silverfish eat literally every other insect they find. Spiders, cockroaches, ants, they eat them all. I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of them using chemicals. If there are a lot of them, it means they have a large food supply. Getting rid of the silverfish may cause you to begin to have other pest problems.

I'm not sure if you're still having trouble with this, but if you'd prefer to go a natural route, silverfish hate the scent of lavender/citrus, apparently. I used orange essential oil and it seemed to keep them at bay - and an added bonus is it makes your house smell lovely!

How do you feel about nuclear power?

This week, the mayor of Niigata officially approved the restarting of a nuclear power plant in Kashiwazaki. My home country doesn't use nuclear power, so it makes me a bit uneasy. How do you feel about it? Would you be comfortable with a nuclear power plant operating in your prefecture?

Your favourite wordplay, pun, or palindrome in Japanese

BigfamJapan blogged about a day for palindromes, and I had a good chuckle. I love wordplay in Japanese! What's your favourite pun, palindrome, or spoonerism (a phrase that gets mangled into another meaning when you switch syllables). For reference, I cracked up when a coworker said "Naiyo ga nai yo" on finding an empty sweets packet.
