Your favorite plum blossom spots?

I know it's only early January, but I'm dreaming of spring already – and plum blossoms to me are the key sign that spring is on its way! I'm wondering if you have any favorite plum blossom spots, and I'd love to know what makes them special for you!

Naritasan Park has a plum blossom festival that starts in mid-February. One year on my way to Narita Airport, I budgeted time to walk along Narita Omotesando to Naritasan just to see the plums amongst the temples. There are 500 trees, both apricot and plum, in the hollow below the pagoda, and others scattered among the temples.

We went to Kameido Tenjin shrine in Koto ward, Tokyo over the weekend. The plum blossoms were still some way off their peak but it was a nice spot and according to the shrine's website there are around 300 flowering trees in the precincts.

@City-Cost Nice one! It's also a pretty spot for wisteria later in spring!

It's not close, but Gifu City has a Bairin Park with a plum blossom festival. Drop by if you are ever in that area at the right time!

I've got another one for you - in the southeast part of Shimizu Park in Noda City, there is a plum grove, some with white, pink, and magenta blossoms, with an ancient shidare ume tree as the centerpiece. Next to the temple gate at the park gate is a younger one which is lovely and the background of conifers and the vermilion gate make it a great photo spot.

How do you feel about nuclear power?

This week, the mayor of Niigata officially approved the restarting of a nuclear power plant in Kashiwazaki. My home country doesn't use nuclear power, so it makes me a bit uneasy. How do you feel about it? Would you be comfortable with a nuclear power plant operating in your prefecture?

Your favourite wordplay, pun, or palindrome in Japanese

BigfamJapan blogged about a day for palindromes, and I had a good chuckle. I love wordplay in Japanese! What's your favourite pun, palindrome, or spoonerism (a phrase that gets mangled into another meaning when you switch syllables). For reference, I cracked up when a coworker said "Naiyo ga nai yo" on finding an empty sweets packet.
