Silver Week plans

Since the State of Emergency I haven’t ranged beyond a few kilometers of home. To relieve the cabin fever, I figure I’ll do day trips to neighboring cities by train (probably against traffic) to do temple walks. I’ll mostly be out of doors. What’s your plan, assuming it’s a four day weekend for you?

This year has been a weird one for holidays. I'm torn between wanting to do things, wondering if that's the right decision, and worrying about the health of my kids if we do decide to do stuff. I liked your idea of temple walks. Still being able to explore, but doing so outdoors, has been one saving grace of 2020.

I'm with you about not having be anywhere beyond 30mins walk radius and definitely need a break. But I also did not even notice Silver Week coming, and looks like I'll be working through it... Going to find a day before or after the 4 days to go out instead, since the crowd should be less then.

I have been trying to figure out what I want to do. I haven't decided. I really want to go to an amusement park, but I am thinking that it's not a great idea. Maybe I will go to a park instead...

@ReishiiTravels I have been longing to ride El Dorado at Toshimaen, but sadly, the park closed August 31st. El Dorado, the antique carousel goes into storage :/ Me, too, I'll be mostly going to parks and on urban walks.

@genkidesu U figure short train rides outside of peak times, walks to historic places, and breaking for lunch with takeout food is the best way to avoid The Three Cs. I'll go with one friend, not a big party.

@TonetoEdo great tips - there are ways to still explore and minimize contact with others, for sure.

I’m Definitely heading to the mountain to camp outdoors. I’m really trying to be as normal as possible especially with the kids. Be safe everyone, let’s get through this together, alive.

@ConeHead Ah, those with families face a lot of challenges - guiding kids don't know (and I wish they didn't need to know) how scary a pandemic is, and the need to keep them active. A mountain holiday sounds like a good bet.

How do you feel about nuclear power?

This week, the mayor of Niigata officially approved the restarting of a nuclear power plant in Kashiwazaki. My home country doesn't use nuclear power, so it makes me a bit uneasy. How do you feel about it? Would you be comfortable with a nuclear power plant operating in your prefecture?

Your favourite wordplay, pun, or palindrome in Japanese

BigfamJapan blogged about a day for palindromes, and I had a good chuckle. I love wordplay in Japanese! What's your favourite pun, palindrome, or spoonerism (a phrase that gets mangled into another meaning when you switch syllables). For reference, I cracked up when a coworker said "Naiyo ga nai yo" on finding an empty sweets packet.
