新泻县处于日本海的海岸， 属于上越地区， 是个弄作业发达的县市。 县人口约两百三十一万人。 新泻县盛产米， 和玉米有关的产品， 尤其是米糕和米酒。许多出名的日本酒都来自新泻县。每年夏天都会有上千的音乐爱好者聚集在新泻县，参与三天两夜的富士摇滚节！因为也是处于山区， 新泻县有很多滑雪度假村和温泉旅店， 出了名的有赤仓观光胜地和妙高温泉。
