    A magical place

Kosoan is an absolutely magical spot in the Jiyugaoka area of Tokyo, and it 100% feels like an oasis in the city. They serve up matcha and various traditional sweets that change with the seasons, and both were delicious. The gardens are so tranquil and beautiful to look out on, too! Our visit was around the March timeframe, and they had a lot of cute decorations up for Hinamatsuri which added to the charm.

  • A splendid afternoon at Kosoan Tea House

I have been to many cafes in Japan yet I can't seem to recall visiting a tea house. So I decided to visit this place near Jiyugaoka with a friend. I was supposed to come here in the summer to try out their shaved ice, but I ended up going in autumn instead. The teahouse is not as big as I saw it being featured on an Instagram post but it's as charming as it looks. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese tea experience then this is the place to go. If you go on a Sunday, expect to wait in line for about 20-30 minutes. My friend ordered the matcha set which cost 1,100 yen. I, on the other hand, opted for the mysterious "Tokoroten". It's a traditional Japanese dish that's made from seaweed jelly shaped into noodles. I was expecting it to be sweet but to my surprise, they served it with mustard. I can't say I wasn't dismayed by this. Although an English menu was offered, it didn't really specify all the ingredients for each item. I understand that I should've known better though. Overall, I was impressed by the way the small space was utilized and the atmosphere was great!
