Being nicely situated in between Kanto and Kansai and hearing mixed reviews of the city means that it was easy to overlook. But I don't want to focus on any of the negatives, I'd rather introduce some of the good reasons why it would be worth it to go to Nagoya.One of the biggest draws to Nagoya was that they have one of the most well respected cafes in Japan: Trunk Coffee.While Trunk has great drip coffee and espresso, they also excel in being one of the few cafes in Japan that serves up the amazing Nitro Cold Brew. Not only do they serve Nitro Cold Brew but they even offer single origin coffee for that Nitro. Something that's rare at any cafe in the world.Of course, being the city of many of Japan's former leaders, there's also a ton of history in the city. Nagoya Castle felt very lacking to me, essentially being a smaller version of Osaka Castle, but Tokugawa Gardens made more of an impression.Many people have recommended Nagoya as a day trip and I'm inclined to agree with that.
