All about the beans: single origin chocolate and coffee
I heard about Saturdays from a friend who's both a coffee nerd and a sweets fiend. His standards are much stricter than mine when it comes to coffee (but more lax on sweets). But I knew that, if he had personally recommended this place to me, it would be worth it. And it was. I actually ended up here three times in the five days I spent in Sapporo. The first was to just check it out and see if it was really worthwhile. The second visit was to buy a few bars of chocolate. The third time, I tried their coffee. Let me take you through my thought process during each visit... My first visit: This shop is kind of far from everything that's happening in Sapporo. My feet are cold and wet and its putting me in a bad mood. My friend better be right about this place, or we're not going to be friends anymore... The interior is cute and it seems to be popular with everyone that visits. But wow, a bar of chocolate is more than 1,000 yen? No thank you. I'm out of here. My second visit: Now that I know the route, it's not so bad... I can't stop thinking about the percentage of cacao in those chocolate bars. I love dark chocolate. Am I really going to pass up an opportunity to get 80% cacao, especially in Japan?! Ok, I'll just try a sample of each bar they sell... Ok, big mistake because now I want to buy every single one. You need to make a decision... I'm going to limit myself to two bars. My wallet hurts, but my stomach sure will be happy. My third visit: I'm practically a regular here. Their chocolate was so yummy, I can't wait to try their coffee. Oh, they roast in-house? Perfect. I'm in the mood for an Americano, I think. For a single-origin roastery, their prices aren't too bad. I've paid more in Tokyo. But this wait time is terrible. But one sip of the coffee and it's all forgotten. I'm going to stay in Sapporo forever just for Saturdays. Saturdays, I'll be back... Please wait for me...
