Tasty, but overpriced in my opinion

I had actually walked past this place a few times on the backstreets of Aoyama, and finally stopped in when I was in Tokyo recently. I have tried a lot of burgers in Tokyo (it used to be part of my personal quest when I lived in the city to try as many of the recommended spots as possible!) and the Umaminoko burger I had here was really good. It wasn't something I'd usually pick for myself, but I figured since it was the signature burger here it was worth a shot - I was pleasantly surprised. In saying that, I don't know that the prices are where I'd like them to be, and I have to be honest: the staff weren't really very friendly. I guess that might be the "too-cool-for-school" Aoyama vibe, but it's not something I usually encounter at eateries in this area, even though it is a trendy part of the city. My favorite burger vote still probably goes to Arms Burger by Yoyogi (and they allow doggies!)

    Umami Burger

This burger chain from Los Angeles expanded to the home of UMAMI in 2017. I've always wanted to try this popular burger joint, but never had the opportunity back home in the states. I finally got to visit one of their 4 stores in Tokyo (and Yokohama). This location is in Omotesando and luckily when my friends and I visited, we just beat the crowd. Everything on their menu sounded delicious, but what won me over was their Umaminoko (noko - from kinoko - meaning mushroom). It was part of their Japan exclusive, so I had to get it - plus I always get the burger with mushrooms. My other friends got the Classic Cheese and the regular Umami burger. My Umaminoko had two beef patties so it was a tad bit difficult to eat. All burgers are provided with a fork and knife because you WILL need it. I wanted to be the American I am and eat it with my hands, however, it was too difficult and I gave in and cut it in pieces. We also shared the Cajun fries which was really good. I really wanted to try the Truffle fries though. They also have a Truffle burger which I may want to try next too. Overall the burger was full of umami and I enjoyed it. It was nice to eat something different from the usual healthy Japanese food. The buns also have their trademark "U" on it, which I think is a cool marketing idea. That's how I always would remember that I want to try an Umami burger. The price of the burgers were a little on the more pricier side. My burger was almost ¥1600 and the fries I believe were ¥800. It's definitely a nice place to treat yourself once in a while.
