Traditional kaiseki in old style restaurant

This establishment has a regular restaurant as well as private rooms. I have only ever used the latter and in my experience it was worth every yen. The regular restaurant is more modern, but the floor with the private rooms is beautiful traditional old style, with bamboo, water features, zen stones and bridges - all indoors. The private room part is higher end. You can dress casually if you like though, but your servers will be dressed in full kimono. There are different sized rooms, we usually get one of the larger rooms which is about a 12 tatami mat room, with a porch that is about 2 tatami. The room seats 8 people very comfortably with room for the kids to play. The rooms have flower arrangements, wall scrolls and other typical Japanese tatami mat room paraphernalia. The food is as delightful as the surroundings with intricate aesthetic dishes. There is usually around eleven courses. We've had fifteen courses once too. At new years they have shishimai performances when the shishimai lion comes into the room and snaps at your head for good luck. The lion is accompanied by a traditional flute player. The kaiseki prices vary depending on time, what you are opting for and time of year. We typically pay 10,000 per person. The restaurant is child friendly. They have a menu for children and the child's meal is really delicious. There is a changing mat, but you can also use your own mat in the tatami mat rooms as you won't be disturbing anyone. Warm, welcoming, pleasant, professional staff. They have nice seasonal menus.
