All you need to break up a journey

The Takasaka Service Area is a parking area on the Kanetsu expressway. This is the one going toward Tokyo. It is not as popular as the one going away from Tokyo which is famed for its Ultraman hoardings. The south / Tokyo bound Takasaka parking area has everything you need for a stop over on a long journey. There are several eateries, a coffee shop, souvenir shop, a nursery (baby facilities), a petrol station, toilets, ATM, information point and even a dog run. You can even do the lottery here! They don't have anything in particular for children in terms of play areas, that I am aware of. You can get free water and tea from a self service area in the main rest area. There is parking for 326 cars and 88 larger vehicles. They have an EV quick charging port.

    Convenient, clean service area

The Takasaka rest area is located on your way into Tokyo when driving from Niigata on the Kanetsu Expressway. It's a convenient spot to stop for a few reasons - the main one being that it's a large rest area but doesn't seem as hectic as some others. The facilities were very clean, there's loads of parking, spots to grab some omiyage or a bite to eat, and even a Tully's Coffee on site. There are spots to sit and eat inside, but if the weather is nice it's pleasant to sit at their outdoor seating area since it was quiet out there. I also saw signs for a dog run which is great if you're traveling with your furry friend.
