Generous sampling at this brewery tour

I've been to quite a few sake breweries now, but this one in Kanazawa was my first ever. It's a great place to visit if you want a really comprehensive understanding of the sake making processes- they let you get a good glimpse into all the behind the scenes action. Lots of samples are made available, so you can explore the types you like best. If you have an interest in sake or just want a unique cultural experience, this is a place worth visiting. Bring someone who speaks Japanese if you don't, because you won't understand much without it!

    Kanazawa's best sake brewery tour/tasting

I've been to many sake breweries in my time here in Japan, and Yachiya offers my favorite tour and my second favorite tasting experience. The shop is ma-ma (so-so), but that's because most of its business is done through orders, not store front sales. The tour is the highlight, though a big downside is the lack of English language support. Still, they are more than happy to let a member of your group interpret, so as long as you have at least one Japanese speaker with you, you'll be fine. The tour offers the deepest glimpse at sake production of any brewery I've visited. We saw the staff checking the status of fermentation, bottling sake--the whole shebang. It was really cool. The tasting is good too. The only downside is that they do not offer a wide variety, but there is really no limit to how much you can drink. Not that anybody should be getting sloshed at a tasting, but you can go back and try different types and compare flavors more than once. That's especially helpful when you're new to sake. The tours run regularly throughout the day and cost 500 yen per person.
