Surprisingly interesting school lunch history center
The School Lunch History Hall in Kitamoto is small and you wouldn't spend more than an hour there, but it is interesting all the same. The Hall documents the evolution of the school lunch in Japan, showing plastic sample models of various school lunches throughout the years. They don't show every year, but they show the very first school lunch and after that years that there was a change in school lunch. For example, you can see a school lunch from the time that milk was introduced. First the milk was presented in bowls. Then you see the school lunch the year that milk bottles were introduced. The milk element of the school lunch changed quite a bit before today's carton was introduced and you can see the actual types of packaging that used to be used in the center. There is lots of information and trivia provided about school lunch in Japan and even some information for overseas, including trivia about my home country Ireland. The history hall is located at the back of Saitama's School Lunch Center off route 312. Parking is free and plentiful. There is a bus stop nearby.
