Off the beaten track campsite
Mahoba No Mori is a campsite in largely unspoiled natural surroundings in the mountainous area of Ueno in Gunma. The scenery in the area is absolutely stunning. You need to take a long windy mountain road to the campsite. The site itself is quite basic - no auto sites only what they call free sites in Japan which means there is no electrical sockets. Toilets are Japanese style squatters. Only cold water in the sink area but they do provide washing up liquid and sponges. Dogs are allowed. There are wild bears and deer in the area, so you have to be careful of both, particularly the bears. The campsite requests that you don't leave any food or rubbish outside the tent. There is a Forest Adventure tree top challenge course within the campsite as well as some free play areas. The skybridge (also reviewd on City-cost) is accessible through a tunnel.
