The Shimane Prefectural Products and Tourist Center is a great spot to stop into if you're after some local goods for yourself or for souvenirs for others. The store is situated in an interesting building which is just across from Matsue Castle and the Horikawa Sightseeing Cruise boarding point. When you step inside you're greeted with all manner of local produce, from boxed omiyage with cookies and cakes, through to tea, beautifully crafted wagashi, pottery and lacquerware, knick knacks and more. There's also a fresh produce area inside that must be grown by local farmers, which would be a perfect spot to pick up fruit and veggies if you live in the local area.
