    Yokohama Doll Museum

It was long on my to-visit-list and now I finally found the opportunity to go to the Yokohama Doll Museum (横浜人形の家). It was first opened back in 1979 after a huge donation of dolls to Yokohama City and finally establish in 1986. Nowadays, inside the museum you can find many dolls from over 140 countries. The permanent exhibition is located on two floors. On the lower floor you first can find a small room looking back to Yokohama's doll history, directly going over into a huge room with dolls from different areas of Japan on the one side and dolls from all over the world on the other side. It is interesting to get to know the world by seeing the dolls and what they are made of. On the upper floor the room is seperated in Japanese dolls and Western dolls. Here you also can see many impressive works. At the Puppet Craftman's Studio you can see how puppets were made. There is also a theater located inside the building where puppet shows, concerts and other events are held. The Yokohama Doll Museum also has a Special Exhibition Room where you can find time-limited exhibition. During our visit the topic was KAWAII and you could see uncountable dolls of Barbie, Licca, Blythe, Jenny and Momoko Doll, which was very interesting. Furthermore, in the Multipurpose Room next to the entrance special events and workshops are held, too. When we visited the museum artists showed their amazing dolls which you could also buy. I really enjoyed the visit to the Yokohama Doll Museum. The regular admission fee is 400 yen, plus some more for special exhibition. If you are walking around Yamashita Park or Chinatown or visit the Marine Tower, why don't you also take a look inside this lovely museum?

Dolls from everywhere at the Doll museum

The Yokohama Doll Museum is a paradise for all doll lovers. The museum has dolls from all over the world and diffrent time periods (from very very old to the newest generation). You can also see some amazing small dollhouses from europe, which look so real. The museum also always offers some special exhibitions like the exhibition about Rika-chan anniversery or the dollhouse exhibition. The museum is an adventure for small and big children and of course also for adults who love dolls.
