Kaizuka-ya for soba, tempura and curry rice, too

Noda City has about 20 traditional soba shops, some of which are famous and look like family restaurants, but Kaizuka-ya is one of the little mom-and-pop shops. We like it because the noodles are just right and the staff are friendly. The shop is named after a kaizuka, a shell midden, that dates from the Jomon period. You can't really see it, but there is a monument marking the spot between Shimizu Park and the restaurant. The food is old fashioned, but not quite Jomon old fashioned. The shop specializes in hand made soba which is cooked just right in dishes such as kamonanban (duck southern style, cold or hot), tempura teishoku, or zaru soba. Like many soba shops, it serves a different kind of curry rice which has a lighter sauce and big chunks of vegetables and meat. Kaizuka-ya is a great place to get lunch after a day at Shimizu Park which has a great petting zoo, pony rides, and field athletics course.
