Savory and Sweet Treats from Noda

Marushima’s main shop is a short walk from the south exit from Kawama Station on the Tobu Urban Park Line. So, you think you know Japanese sweets, but these I assure you, are different. This shop has been doing classic bean paste treats for decades. Their dorayaki is shoyu, soy sauce flavored. First you get the bean paste flavor, and then you taste the complex aroma of soy sauce. Marushima is also the only shop permitted to use the Kikkoman trademark on their packages, which is embossed on their sweets. The packaging is gorgeous. If you get a gift box, it’s wrapped in paper with seasonal motifs, making for great presents.
