Something different (and really fun!) from all the temples and shrines in Kyoto

If you're visiting Kyoto - or perhaps taking friends or family who are visiting there - it's very likely that you have a bucketload of shrines and temples on the itinerary. They are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but if you want a different side of Kyoto I would highly recommend checking out the Kyoto Handicraft Center. They offer a range of different hands on options for you to learn about traditional Japanese handicrafts - from things like doing a woodblock print, to painting your own design on a folding fan and so many more. Our choice was to paint our own clay bell dolls. They had a range of samples to check out, but my husband decided that instead of going the traditional route he would paint his own Totoro as you can see in the picture! You're only limited by your imagination so paint something that you will enjoy looking at!
