The best ramen comes from a tiny shack!
I feel like everyone who has lived in Japan for a while has their number one ramen spot. For me and my husband, our favorite is Kaotan Ramen which is just by Aoyama Cemetery in a tiny shack that seats probably ten people at max.
It's one of those places that definitely has to go under the "don't judge a book by its' cover" sayings...the inside is charming in a very rustic kind of way (I love the character!) and the ramen is shoyu ramen - with the most delicious melt in your mouth pork slices on top. I think we like this ramen the best because it leaves us feeling full but not heavy or greasy like a lot of other ramen places do.
If you're in Tokyo and in the Omotesando/Harajuku/Roppongi areas, this place isn't too far away and is a worthy detour. They also serve some super tasty gyoza if you want a side dish!
