    Go for the illuminations!

If you've been in Japan a while now, you're probably well aware of the country's affinity for lights at this time of year. We went to the Yomiuri Land Jewellumination event last in January this year, and it's back on again, running until mid February of 2018. If you're into all things over the top, this is the place for you. There are lights as far as the eye can see, and it's so much fun in an albeit-slightly-gaudy way. When we visited there were plenty of other families there too, so it seems like a popular spot to check out some illuminations with kids in tow. The one word of warning I would advise is to really bundle up. I'm not sure if it's already as cold there now as it was when we went in January, or if we just happened upon the coldest weather weekend of the year, but it was chilly! Bring heavy coats, scarves, gloves, hats - the works. If you don't need to use them all then no big deal, but definitely better to be toasty than cold!
