Intimation of Kawagoe Castle's heyday
Although there are few remaining structures of Kawagoe Castle (the palace and a moat), there are many markers indicating places where fortifications once stood. They give an impression of just how big Kawagoe Castle was. I didn't expect much from the Fujimi yagura remains, but it's tall and affords a view of the town looking south. I recommend walking the 15 minutes between Kitain and the palace with a stop at the Fujimi yagura spot to appreciate the extent of the castle site.

Climb to the top
Years ago, on my very first visit to Kawagoe before I moved here, a history buff friend brought me to the Fujimi Turret and I was underwhelmed. But I didn't climb to the top that day and it wasn't until years later that I did and realized there are three shrines at the top of the mount! Now I visit the turret every couple of months, because for the last year or two they have a lovely balloon art display with hanachozu (floating flowers) that change periodically!
