Different than the US, but still good for a burger fix!
It's been a while now since I popped in here with my husband when we were in Tokyo - we'd both enjoyed Carl's Jr in the States when we wanted that quick burger fix. To me their burgers are a bit more upscale than what you'll find at a McDonalds here, for instance. They've got items like Angus Beef burgers, low-carb lettuce wrap burgers, and a range of sides and desserts (the crisscut fries are a nice change from usual french fries!). The biggest difference here from the States is the price point, and I guess that's probably to be expected given that a lot of the ingredients are likely imported from the States. Can't blame them there - I guess for authenticity's sake it's easier to do that than source local ingredients. Overall, if you're after a US style burger chain fix, this will kick the craving for that.

Mid-point between Fast Food and Fancy Burgers
I was surprised to find Carl's Jr in Japan, and I guess it would make sense that a fancy place like Jiyugaoka would have one. Carl's Jr here is more expensive than most fastfood restaurants but not quite at the level of Shake Shack and other fancy burger shops, but the quality and price is just right, and they provide the comfortable hearty burger feeling that I sometimes miss at an affordable price. The shop's atmosphere is great too, and the unlimited-refill is always appreciated. I might not always frequent Carl's Jr, but I would if I live close to one.

Better than the States, but completely different vibe
One of the great things about Carl's Jr back in the States is that you can get a great burger and shake for less than five dollars. As such, it was a favorite place for me to go when I wanted a quick, filling lunch. The Carl's Jr in Jiyugaoka offers a completely different vibe. It reminded me more of Shake Shack or other franchised fast food burger joints that get upscaled over here in Japan. Don't get me wrong, the burgers are decent, the portion sizes are reasonable, but there are tastier, non-chain burger restaurants in Japan than this. Also, don't expect the flavors to be the same as back in the states. Again, it's not bad--just different. In the end, it's all probably objectively better than the Carl's Jr joints back in America, but that wasn't really the point of Carl's Jr, I reckon.
