An update -- the store has been replaced with a yakitori restaurant
Just a FYI for anyone who planned to visit here, Ramen no Mise Yokoso! has now been replaced by a yakitori restaurant. I will be trying it soon, but I'm still bummed that the ramen shop is no longer, because they served some of our favorite tantanmen in all of Japan!

Delicious food, friendly service
This is our local ramen spot in Niigata as it's literally down the street from us, and it helps that the food is delicious. The restaurant is small, but it's usually not too hard to get a seat. The tantanmen is our go-to option on the menu, and from the first time we got it we weren't disappointed. If you're in the area I recommend it if you want great ramen, friendly service, and a home dining style atmosphere. Especially great in the winter months when it's so snowy outside.

Best Tantanmen in Niigata, maybe anywhere
My favorite kinds of ramen shops are the little hole-in-the-wall places that focus solely on making Ramen. That's why I went to try out Ramen no Mise Yokoso. I expected there to be good ramen, but I did not know that the store's specialty happened to be my favorite kind of ramen: tantanmen. I am pretty picky when it comes to tantanmen. I don't like the kind that just uses tons of chili oil and ground beef to call itself tantanmen. Good tantanmen doesn't take shortcuts, and Ramen no Mise Yokoso certainly was up to the task. The tantanmen here alone is worth the trip, though there are many different varieties that are also tasty. I wouldn't recommend the normal shoyu (soy sauce) ramen--it's good, but not the best thing the restaurant offers. Ramen no Mise Yokoso is only open for a few hours at lunch time and dinner time, with a break in between. There are only a few tables (each with four seats) and a counter, so be aware to arrive early if you have a large party.
