Autumn = Halloween decorations!
A little append to my previous review -- if you visit Echigo Hillside Park during autumn, particularly during October, it's decorated for Halloween. It's perfect if you're an expat who misses places really getting into the spooky spirit, as they had quite a few photo op areas set up, autumnal foliage, and all that good stuff. Admission has gone up slightly since I last reviewed the park (used to be 410 yen, is now 450 yen for adults).

Gorgeous, spacious park with plenty of flower displays
Echigo Hillside Park is located in Nagaoka, and is the perfect spot to visit with your entire family. There is plenty to see and do, from seasonal flower displays to play equipment for the kids to enjoy, barbecue and picnic areas and more. The flowers in particular are beautiful - the rose garden is worth a look when they are in season. There’s also a shop nearby selling all manner of rose infused eats, including rose flavored soft cream! The park is also a popular spot to see some fantastic tulip displays when they are in bloom - it’s one of the biggest drawcards for them in terms of visitor numbers. Adult admission to the park is 410 yen, children are 80 yen (preschoolers and under are free). The park itself has differing opening hours which are season dependent, but from now through to August they’re open from 9.30am until 6pm.
