One of a kind bilingual sheep dog show
The Ikaho Green Farm is definitely worth a visit, if you are in the area. You could spend a full day here as it has an amusement area as well as the farm area and sheep dog show. However, be prepared to empty your wallet. Even though you pay to enter, almost everything except the sheep dog show costs extra. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to reasonably priced zoos and farms in the Saitama area, so I was quite surprised when we visited Ikaho Green Farm that we had to pay to do things that are free in most other farms and zoos we have visited. They charge for things such as petting some of the farm animals they have and milking cows. Thankfully, the beautiful scenery, the sheepdog show and the opportunity to pet some animals make up for that. The sheepdog show is run by a person from New Zealand, who speaks in English during the show, and a Japanese member of staff. The amusement area has some nice rides too, but as you have probably already guessed; that costs extra money too. Some of them are over-priced, but most are a fair price. There are shops and restaurants in the farm and lots of open space to picnic. You are allowed bring in your own picnic. The farm is particularly beautiful late April and early May when the Yaezakura, a late blooming type of cherry blossom, are in season. The farm is open 9 am to 4 pm (last entry 3.30 pm) from March to November with extended hours in Golden Week. From December to February it opens from 10 am to 4 pm, but it is only open on weekends from mid January to end of February. You can rent a buggy for 200 yen and they have wheelchairs available for use for free.
