    City of Crazy Tourists Mall

Maybe it was a nice rainy day for shopping, because Canal City was nice and crowded this weekend. Fukuoka gets it's fair share of Korean tourists being so close by, but I noticed more than usual. I don't know if it was a three day weekend in Korea or China, but there were so many Asian tourists in the mall. Someone gave them the memo that it's a huge mall with everything from Uniqlo to HM and Zara and right in Hakata. It's a lot easier to get to from Hakata Station than Marinoa City Outlet Mall but probably not as crowded as the shopping in Hakata Station. I had walked through Canal City on occasion before, mostly for the free samples of coffee at Kaldi Coffee Farm. They were selling bags of matcha Kit Kat, but at double the price at our local discount store - and I saw someone with an armful of bags, wow. I didn't realize how huge this mall is before, at three stories, and with different sections as if it were three malls squished together. Part of Canal City is along the Canal but it extends over a street to the East Wing, where part of the building is covered by ivy. After eating lunch, swinging by Uniqlo and Kaldi, being cut in front of by a group of older Korean women and overhearing an older man yelling at (or just talking very loudly to) someone in Chinese, we had enough of the crowds and got outta there.
