Convenience store for drivers in remote northeast Okinawa Island

This is a useful store for those driving along the northeast coast of Okinawa Island where shops are few and far between and difficult to find. Ada Co-op is a small, locally-run convenience store in the village of Ada, on the east coast of Okinawa about half way between Cape Hedo and Higashi Town (perhaps the only town of any size in the northeast of Okinawa Honto). Ada is a pint-sized village located about 2 km east off Route 70. The turnoff to Ada is an easy spot due to the presence of the Ada Garden Hotel Okinawa, a sizeable hotel that looks like it belongs in colonial Southeast Asia. As I said in the opening paragraph, there is little in the way of convenience stores and supermarkets in this part of Okinawa (or they just don’t jump out at you) so stores like Ada Co-op are where drivers will be able to stock up on snacks, drinks, cigarettes and other bits and bobs for the road. Ada Co-op is about the size of your typical convenience store. There is a bench out front and place for people to smoke. Inside you’ll find a small collection of refrigerated drinks, pot noodles / cup ramens, and snacks and candy. There are breads here, too, but there wasn’t much to choose from at the time of visiting. Fish and vegetables caught / produced locally can be purchased here. The store also looks like it might serve as a local information center, with its notice boards out front, as well as being a place where locals gather and have a few streetside bevvies. We didn’t spot any parking but we were able to pull up at the side of the road out front. If you ever happen to be in Ada, you’ll soon notice that the streets don’t see much in the way of traffic. The store was quiet, but we weren’t the only people in there, and the solitary member of staff was friendly. I had thought it would be difficult to locate this store on maps / Internet given the remote feel of northeast Okinawa, but to my surprise Ada Co-op has a Facebook page. Ultimately, the reason I feel like Ada Co-op is worth a review is because there really are few stores in the northeast of Okinawa Island. So, should you be driving around this part of Okinawa and in need of some snacks / drinks, this place might come in handy. Hours 7:30 - 19:00 (according to the Ada Co-op Facebook page, although I’m sure on the door it said 20:00)
