The Good Days

Nice burgers outside of Aoshima, Miyazaki

The Good Days is a "break stand" (read "burger shop") located just north of the Kaeda River along Route 220, the main road between Miyazaki City and Aoshima. The small shop, built in the retro stylings of an American diner, is a stone's throw from the Kirishima Sports Complex (host to pro-baseball team off-season training camps). By car, it's around 15 mins from central Miyazaki, and 5 mins from Aoshima. The main item on the menu at The Good Days is burgers. Prices range from 500 - 800 yen for a range of burgers that cover all the classics -- BLT, cheese, Mexican, avocado, egg & cheese. Burgers come served with small set of fries. A grill menu covers steak and hanbaagu ("humberg" on the menu) for around 2,500 yen while lunch plates (fish, chicken, shrimp, more hambaagu) go for around 1,000 yen. Soft drinks start from 300 yen and the bottled beer includes Cornona and Heiniken. The shop is relatively small and the layout is very simple with tables and chairs seating two, a couple of booths, and counter seating that looks out onto the small parking lot and to Route 220 beyond. Images from surf webcams (Hawaii?) were scrolling on a big screen TV at the time of visiting. The burgers we ate at The Good Days were delicious and the service was prompt and friendly. Order at the table, pay at the cash register when you leave. We were here at the height of summer when it was blazing hot outside. The air con, however, was set at such a cold temperature as to be uncomfortable. You could walk to The Good Days from Unokoen Station, otherwise this a place more suited to those with their own set of wheels. If you can stand the frigid aircon, The Good Days makes for a nice lunch option alternative or a post-surf bite if you're staying in nearby Aoshima.
