Shanghai cuisine, great shoronpo
Yushu Merchants Ramen is a chain shop with many locations in the Tokyo metropolitan area. I like this location just around the corner from Issa-Soju Memorial Hall in Nagareyama City. After a relaxing afternoon at the temples, the haiku memorial hall, and the galleries, this is a great place to eat. They serve shoronpo, a type of dumpling that originated in Shangai, China. The shop has a little guide to help diners enjoy shoronpo. The noodle broth at this restaurant is quite different from Japanese ramen. The broth can be clear and light, or thick and laden with lots of flavorful simmered vegetables. The shop serves many regional dishes. The shop is open late night for hungry insomniacs.
