Step out of the city into one of Tokyo's highest rated parks

Hikarigaoka Park was once part of a Japanese military airfield and was then used by US forces during their occupation. When it was handed back (in 1973) they dedicated one third of the area to this park. The area around it has since been developed into a popular and populous residential city, one of the biggest in Tokyo. The park really is, as the Japanese say, a place to refresh. It is a vast park with lots of facilities and quite quiet and tranquil considering it is in the heart of a metropolis. The park is particularly resplendent in Autumn when the gingko trees and autumn foliage gives the park lots of vibrance and colour. It is a much used park and given its reviews on Google, a much loved park too. The park has lots of sporting facilities including a soccer field, tennis courts, a Japanese archery range and baseball field, to name but a few. There is also a large gymnasium and a library there. Other amenities include a BBQ field and a day camp area. They have a yosakai festival in the summer. The park is open 24 hours, but the parking is not. The opening hours seem to depend on a few things. It is charged by the half hour, but it is not too bad for the location. If there are any events on the day you are visiting you would need to arrive early to secure a parking spot. It is a five minutes walk from Hikarigaoka Station on the Toei Subway Oedo Line.
