    Highly recommend an autumn visit

If you're visiting Niigata, and in particular the Yahiko area, checking out Yahiko Shrine is a must. It's the most visited shrine in Niigata, and it's surrounded by mountains and cedar trees which add to the spiritual and tranquil feel. Along with the leaves changing, the shrine hosts an annual chrysanthemum festival which is neat to check out.

    Yahiko Jinja

Yahiko Shrine is a popular Japanese Shrine in Niigata located in the foothills of Yahiko mountain. It is popular for its giant gate. It is said that the shrine was built around 1300 years ago, and many cultural artifacts including swords and calligraphy are on display in its treasury. It is a beautiful shrine in itself but the nature around is even more beautiful. The have chrysanthemum festival around November and that is when it is best to visit. Usually Autumn is the best in this area but spring is also beautiful.
