A Tokyo icon
Hobson's is one of those fixtures in Tokyo that reminds my husband of his childhood in Japan, and somewhere we still occasionally frequent when we're in the city. It's a dose of nostalgia for him, and for me, well...I just like the ice cream ;) They have a ton of flavors, including classics like vanilla and cookie crumble (basically cookies and cream), plus more Japanese inspired options like green tea and royal milk tea. I also like visiting here to just sit and watch the world go by from the windows for a bit...it's soothing!

Come for the History, Stay for the tasty ice cream!
Hobson's is a strange relic of Japan's past. The ice cream shop originated in California and was famous for stir-in ingredients decades before Coldstone or other "ice slab" creameries became popular. The whole place just oozes 80s Japan though, where American franchises were brought over during Japan's period of rapid economic growth. Lots of places faded away, but Hobson's has stuck around, in part because it has become iconic for the area and in part because the ice cream there is REALLY good and reasonably priced. (Come for the history, stay for the tasty ice cream, I guess!) Hobson's offers mix-in ice cream, milkshakes, and a variety of other ice cream options. There is a second floor with seating overlooking the intersection that makes it a fun place for people watching, as well. The only downside is that it is a bit of walk from the nearest stations, but that's not much of a problem when the weather is nice!
