American Style Motor Lodge: Good for Long Car Trips
This was the most nostalgia inducing place that I've ever stayed in Japan because it feels very much like a Motel 6 but cleaner and kept to a Japanese standard in many ways. The vending machines weren't great and the only place to buy food when we got there was the little restaurant and souvenir shop that was a small walk away. This day itself was fine and the beds weren't super comfortable but there wasn't anything wrong with them either. It was what's one should expect from a three-star hotel that is located in a service area off of the highway. That said, it did have a lovely foggy/misty/fantastical view for the evening. We stayed on Christmas night actually and they had a Christmas tree in the lobby that made me feel a little bit more at home. One important note was that my husband had said to bring my daughter a toothbrush which made me think that they would give us two toothbrushes, one for each adult. Unfortunately they charge 50 Yen for each toothbrush and I had not brought mine which became a whole other problem. It is meant to be a small and affordable but comfortable enough space to sleep in for those making a long trek, and it was definitely significantly better than driving while too tired to function or pulling over on the side of the road to pass out for a little while.
