Need to know what is the cheapest train from Shin Osaka to tokyp

  • If you want to go by Shinkansen, the cheapest one is the Kodama. You need to reserve a seat at least one day before and it will cost 10,300 Yen. The cheapest way between from Osaka to Tokyo might be by highway bus. It will take some hours, but the prices start from around 3,100 Yen one-way. Both daytime and nighttime are available. I think to get the 10,300 fare for the Kodama Shinkansen you need to use the Platt Kodama ticket which it looks like you need to buy from a JR Tokai Tours office. There's info in English about that here (http://www.jrtours.co.jp/kodama/en/). If you just buy a regular ticket it will be over 13,620 yen. If you go by regular trains it will take you hours and the price will still be about the same as the (Platt) Kodama.

What date are you going? And how many of are you are going? Last year they had their special Seishun 18 offer in March. It was an amazingly good value ticket for 5 rides. One person could use the tickets 5 times during the allocated period, or 5 people could use one ticket each iykwim. This explains it better: https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/seishun18.html It shows info for summer and winter, but there was one in March too. If you are going in March or after they may have something like this again this year.

For an overview of transport options and their costs from Tokyo to Osaka, maybe an earlier post on City-Cost can help ... https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/City-Cost/GW4ew

Check out Hyperdia. You put in your starting point and destination and it will give you a list of options and the prices.

What sakura apps / websites are you using in 2024?

What websites or Apps are you using to keep track of the bloom stages of cherry blossoms in 2024? I usually use a mix of Tenki.jp, Yahoo and Jorudan and another one that I have forgotten! (I delete them at the end of each season to free up space on my phone). I occasionally use the app from JMA, but I don't like its set up. Are there any other Apps or websites you recommend? TIA

What's in your toshikoshi soba?

What do you put in your toshikoshi soba? One year I sauteed some chicken and naganegi to start a broth augmented with tsuyu, cooked the soba separately, and served the broth with kamaboko slices.

Transferring Pension

I'm currently sorting through EVERYTHING I bought back from Japan with me, so you'll get all your new blogs soon. I came across some documents that I actually completed when I came back from Japan, which was to do with pensions. This took me a while to figure out because it was complicated. Would you like to know how to transfer your pension to you from Japan? People say you can't. The things is... you can.

My FIRST Log! Would You Like to Hear it?

In my last post I asked what you would like to hear from me now I have left. I was digging through some stuff the other day and I found my very FIRST book log that I kept when I toured Japan originally. I was thinking about typing it up and reminding myself of what my younger self thought of Japan. Would you like to hear about what I got up to? I'm not sure if I can even remember! HA!!
