Cable TV, hulu, netflix
Does anybody know which cable companies in the Tokyo area have the most English channels? Also, have you tried hulu? If so, what did you think about the programming selection? Worth the money? I also recently heard Netflix will be coming to Japan. I hope they have similar titles as the US!

I don't have a TV, but I do have my Xbox connected to a monitor and I use online services to watch TV. The Japan Netflix selection is pretty good, in my opinion. There's a mix of Japanese and American shows, some that aren't on American Netflix anymore. There are also some VPN services that let you change where you appear to be and access the US or other international versions of Netflix. I've survived almost three years using mostly Netflix (since the Hulu selection isn't great).

I haven't tried the Japanese cable services as I hear they are quite expensive, but we have used Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video in our home. Amazon doesn't really compare yet, unless you plan on buying shows/movies. For a while, you could use a VPN to access both Japanese and US/UK/AUS/etc Netflix with a single account but they have really been cracking down recently. Hulu uses a separate site entirely, hulu.com vs hulu.jp so if you want both, you'd have to pay separately, but they have also gotten much stricter about using VPNs recently. The Japanese version of both Netflix and Hulu offer quite a variety of shows though. Depending on how much you watch TV, they should be sufficient. I've found that Hulu usually has more recent content while Netflix has a larger selection of slightly older content. Hulu also sometimes releases content as it airs in the US, for very very popular shows. I find switching between the two occasionally to be the most satisfying.
