高知县处于日本西部的四国岛上。县人口约七十五万人， 是日本人口最低的县市。因为高知县市山区，所以有一半的居民都住在县首都高知市内。高知县和高知市是日本最遭台风袭击， 降雨量最高的地方。一年的降雨量可以高达两千五百四十七毫米。每年在高知市也会举行闻名的夜来节， 吸引了上千的舞者在高知市的街上跳舞。
