Sticker Spreadsheet of Knowledge

I haven't seen this type of thing very often, but I've only seen it in Japan. The small color dot stickers are generally lined up in neat little rows and sometimes color coordination or patterns are visible.

Today I had vaccine number one.

After that, I went to the nearby drugstore for some groceries and saw the above Corona Vaccine Interview.

People who have had at least one vaccination are encouraged to mark their side effects by sticking a dot in the appropriate place.

The top section is for side effects common after the first vaccine, the bottom half for the second.

As for the side effects discussed, first we have fever. On the left no fever, in the middle between 37-38 degrees C, and on the right over 38 degrees.

Then there is feeling tired, yes or no. We also have arm pain, swelling, and headache.

I see more stickers in the top half and am guessing a lot of people have had only the first vaccination, if any, at this point.

Another reason this was created is to help those who are worried about getting the vaccine for various reasons. Seeing the number of people who experienced specific side effects and what the common side effects were might make them feel more at ease.

I compared this information to the handout I was given while waiting about fifteen minutes in the clinic after my vaccination.

For some reason this paperwork shows the word for symptoms (shoujyou) instead of the vaccine's side effects (fukusayou). I just had a conversation about that to make sure I understood what the difference was.

This chart also doesn't distinguish between the first and second vaccinations, although from what I hear, most side effects occur after the second one.

It shows that at least 50% of people have some pain on their arm where they got the vaccine, fatigue, or headache.

Compared with the sticker spreadsheet, which shows headache, arm pain, and fatigue, headache and fatigue are much more frequent after the second vaccination. It seems that more like 90% of people who participated in the 'sticker interview' had arm pain. (I noticed my arm was sore exactly four hours after the vaccination.)

Between 10-50% of people have muscle pain, chills, joint pain, diarrhea, fever, or swelling at the site of injection. We can compare fever in general and agree but it looks like over 50% for after the second vaccination. As far as swelling, it's similar with maybe only 20% after the first vaccination but the second one pushing that percentage up.

As very few people experience nausea and vomiting (1-10%), it's not on the handmade chart at the top.

I shared the top image with a friend who said it was like a "sticker spreadsheet," and it really is. It's a quick visual way to get information based on personal experience, vs. a cold set of data, like what has been provided by the clinic.

I like that it gets the community involved and interested in a more tactile way. I wonder if it will persuade anyone who has decided not to get the vaccine.

This is a clever way to do informal polling. It makes you feel a little less alone when you see how others in your local area are experiencing the same side-effects. One that doesn't appear here is fuzzy head, but I would guess those who stuck their sticker in the fatigue category.
